ABOUT THE ARAUCARIAS CIRCUIT
This Aracaurias Circuit Cycling Tour itinerary is full of natural, historical, gastronomic, and cultural attractions. The landscape is quite varied, alternating between mountain peaks and plateaus or river valleys. The Atlantic Forest is well preserved, mixed with imposing forests and beautiful araucarias. Nature is also present in the large concentration of springs and waterfalls, such as the Waterfalls Route, an incredible sequence of 14 falls in less than 3km.
There are also other great natural attractions, including Morro da Igreja, which stands out from a great distance and has a stone wall where climbers practice rappelling (one of the largest in Brazil, at 245m), and Campos do Quiriri, a preservation area that can be seen from the Circuit and from where, on clear days, you can see the entire north coast of Santa Catarina.
Dona Francisca Road is one of the highlights of the historic part. The circuit passes through several stretches of the original route of the road, built around 1865. Another point of historical interest is the railroad built in 1913, which is still in operation, and was part of the Railroad that connected São Paulo to Rio Grande do Sul. The trails wind through the mountains and cross the circuit several times.
In the cultural aspect, the German, Polish, and Italian influence is very present, mainly notable in the customs and traditions, such as the local festivals (where there is no shortage of draft beer and folkloric dances), the food (with delicious colonial coffees), the types of constructions and the physical traits of its people. Spanish, Czech, Austrian, and Portuguese immigrants, among others, also marked their presence in the region.
Along the Araucarias Circuit Cycling Tour are small museums with pieces and artifacts, mainly rural, brought or manufactured by the first settlers. The four cities, São Bento do Sul, Corupá, Campo Alegre, and Rio Negrinho, have several well-preserved historic buildings, many of which function as public bodies.
